Lecturers
Our research work is interdisciplinary and practice-oriented.
Thanks to active collaboration between lecturers from different disciplines and close networking between the three disciplines of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Forestry (at the "Green Education, Skill and Transfer Centre"), we are able to tackle academic challenges from a holistic perspective.
In addition to close and long-standing contacts with professionals in the field, our research is largely determined by national and international collaborative projects. The key topics focus on the ecological, economic and social standards of sustainability in land and resource use, especially when it comes to safeguarding the diverse functions of forests.
Research is conducted both in the form of Bachelor's and doctoral theses and through research collaboration with institutions and companies.
The Department of Forestry is well networked in the Thuringian forest and timber cluster and coordinates the informal cooperation of a related alliance. In particular, our close ties to ThüringenForst AöR and the timber processing industry enable us to undertake specific applied research.
Main areas of research
The research strategy of the Department of Forestry is aligned with the general research projects of FH Erfurt, in particular the "Green Centre" of the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt.
The traditional focus of our department's applied forestry research lies in the disciplines of forest planning, forest conservation, silviculture, wildlife management and optimizing processes in the raw wood supply chain (forest management / forest use).
As networking in the field of ecosystems management becomes more pronounced, issues of landscape management, nature conservation, biodiversity and the provision of renewable raw materials for energy purposes are becoming increasingly important for the department's research.
A further key area of research is environmental education. In addition to projects to develop forest pedagogy, research is also being conducted into innovative approaches to transferring knowledge.
